Marty McFly, the lovable protagonist, hopes that his rock and roll dreams will carry him far away from the suburban drudgery of Hill Valley. When he gets behind the wheel of Doc Brown's time-traveling DeLorean, he soon learns that the greatest adventure of his life won't be determined by where he goes, but when.
Eccentric and brilliant scientist Emmett "Doc" Brown has spent his entire life (and family fortune) trying to unlock the secret of time travel. After developing the flux capacitor, Doc unleashes a wave of temporal chaos that stretches from 1885 to 2015, leading him to decide that some scientific breakthroughs might be best left undiscovered.
Throughout Marty's encounters with his mother Lorraine in different times and timelines, he meets a woman who is much more complicated, strong, and wild than he ever could have imagined, challenging his initial perception of her as a boring, high-school good girl.
Marty's sweet-natured and bookish father George is as much of a weak-willed pushover in the past as he is in the present. However, when Biff threatens the woman he loves at the Enchantment Under the Sea Dance in 1955, George taps into a previously unknown well of strength that will change the future of the McFly family forever.
Biff Tannen, Hill Valley's biggest bully, remains a constant throughout the changing timelines. When the slow-witted and quick-tempered Biff discovers the secret of time travel in 2015, he becomes far more powerful (and dangerous) than Doc and Marty could have ever imagined.
After being saved from a carriage accident by Doc Brown in 1885, schoolteacher Clara Clayton finds herself smitten by the brilliant blacksmith. When Doc finally tells her the unbelievable story of his past, Clara must decide if being with the man she loves is worth giving up everything she has ever known.
